Welcome to The Crunchy Chronicles
Thanks for visiting my blog. I’m Karissa!
I like to share my tips and ideas about cooking healthy food and living green. I want to help people make a significant change in their health by cutting back on processed foods and toxins around their home.
So…Who am I?
I’m the mom of a crazy, adorable toddler (and two rambunctious doggies) and the wife of a pretty awesome guy. I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology which fueled my love for research and ethical science. You’ll often find me digging down deep into health benefits of foods and the ingredients of DIY products.
I love cooking wholesome, organic vegan food and experimenting in the kitchen. Using food to heal and promote health is priority in our house. Plus, food is delicious and I like delicious food and sharing it with you.
If you dig back into my older blog archives, you’ll probably some non-vegan recipes – I’ve started my vegan journey fairly recently but it’s something I’m super passionate about due to health, environmental, and ethical reasons.
I believe we need to cherish and be kind to our earth, especially for our children and future generations. I love to get crafty with upcycling and finding ways to be more eco-friendly, like making homemade body care products and non-toxic cleaners.
My Crunchy Journey
My crunchy journey started when my dogs were making monthly trips to the vet for various ailments, like allergies, stomach problems, and recurring ear infections. After I realized the medications clearly were not working, I took a step back and decided to get to the root of their problem. I replaced their cheap, processed kibble with grain-free food that contained better ingredients, and started using more natural care methods. We have more recently switched their food again to The Honest Kitchen dehydrated food which I highly recommend! My pups are super healthy now.
Shortly after reassessing my dogs’ health, I thought to myself, “Well, if they experienced so many issues just due to their diet…why should I keep eating processed foods? What am I doing to my health by not eating more nutritious foods?”
I started researching the food we were eating and discovered it was garbage – full of preservatives, artificial ingredients, and added sugar. We slowly made an overhaul of our fridge and pantry and started eating real, unprocessed foods.
That spiraled into my attempt to remove as many toxins from my house as possible, by making homemade cleaners and finding more natural products.
